Ever had one of those ‘bad days’? Yeah…I hear you! Today was not my most stellar of days. A flat tire. A trip to the doctor’s office. Two hours at the license plate office, only to find out I didn’t have the correct paperwork. And, I forgot to put the trash out. Oh, and I broke a $40 bottle of olive oil in the elevator. Do you have any idea how messy that was?
It would have been easy to go into the drama of it all — to scream, cry, make up stories about how life is out to get me, to make the incidences mean something tragic.
But, I didn’t.
I had the tire fixed, and thanked the jolly staff.
I had Sarah’s prescriptions filled.
I made a call to receive the correct paperwork for the license plate.
The trash will just have to wait for another week.
And, I spent an hour cleaning glass and wiping up the oil spill. An hour!!!
Bad days are usually caused by the drama in our heads.
But…
Without the drama, there’s just an action to take (or not).
Without the drama, it’s just a circumstance.
Without the drama, everything just is.
Without the drama, life is a beautiful mess.
I’ve worked hard to get to this place of dropping the drama.
The drama was what made me reach for the stale doughnuts. The drama was what caused me to stay awake at night. The drama was what kept me from taking bold action in my life.
Here’s what I’ve learned:
Without the drama, there are few bad days. {tweet it}
Plus, elegant women…we don’t do drama; we do life.

Your post is so true Tonya, i tend to turn something so small that has a solution had i just reacted differently, and i end up having a bad day mad at the world. i commit to live a drama free life by applying the strategy used when you find yourself complaining 'AND',it immediately gets you in solution mode and suddenly your moods shifts and you feel different about what happened.
It's all about perspective Rosemary, and it's a daily, moment by moment practice for me 🙂
I love this post! Bad days do indeed happen. I have chosen to deal with bad days without drama by staying my elegantly calm self!! I just laugh, smile and breathe and I will know exactly what to do next. This practice feels so much better than being the former Drama Princess I used to be.
Hey Regina! As a former Drama Princess, I so agree.
'Without the drama, it’s just a circumstance.' So true, and this one sentence says it all for me. I too can let something that happens put me in a bad mood. This post is a great reminder. Thank you Tonya.
Fiona, you are SO welcome.
Well I listened to the discussion about intention with Bryan last night. I came to realize that I actually embrace drama, get a kick, like the power, enjoy the release. It's the same thing as the sense of lack I'm dealing with regarding money. I must arrive at an intention that embraces that the love within me is abundant enough to not have to need power when things don't go my way. Maybe I should just scream, "Hey, that hurts!" Or, "Ouch!" Maybe I'll even laugh. Joie! What I've learned is that, I probably won't just walk away - that's, at this moment for me, an unreachable intention.
I have had many moments of screaming and working through my own internal drama. And, I still have those moments when I can be dramatic, but it's less often, as I've realized that it (usually) doesn't serve me. (P.S. I hope you enjoyed Bryan's bonus call). xo
Love it! "Without the drama, life is a beautiful mess." It's so true. Once I shifted my reaction to things, life got a lot better and more amusing. I can now laugh at life's hiccups!
